2020 Living Water Award Winners

While BLCWR 2020 was a casualty of COVID-19, its writing contest survived. A record number of entries were received for an expanded number of categories. Although not every entrant won a Living Water Award for his or her writing, each one was a winner for taking on this writing contest challenge.

Living Water Awards 2022

Blue Lake Christian Writers Conference (BLCWC) is pleased to announce the details for the Living Water Writing Contest 2022.  All* those who attend the conference this year are eligible to submit pieces for consideration (*except faculty members.)

Eligibility has been extended this year to allow authors to enter who have previously been published in that category. Separate awards will be made in each category for published and non-published authors.

Categories in which submission will be accepted are:

  •             Articles
  •             Bible Studies
  •             Children’s Picture Book
  •             Devotions
  •             Novel
  •             Non-Fiction Book
  •             Poetry
  •             Young Adult Book

Email entries to BLCWC director Marilyn Turk at Emeraldcoastchristianwriters@gmail.com, with the words “Contest Entry” in the subject line, no later than Friday, March 4, 2022. Please copy Contest Director Alice Murray on the email at pstyre@aol.com.

An entry fee of $25.00 is required for each entry. Please mail one check for all entries to Marilyn Turk at the following address: 107 Bermuda Way, Niceville, FL 32578. Attn: Marilyn Turk. Make the check payable to Emerald Coast Christian Writers for the appropriate amount.

The following criteria must be observed:

  1. Text should be double-spaced in Times New Roman font. Exception: Poetry may be single-spaced.
  2. Do NOT put the author’s name on the text itself. Include a cover sheet with:
  • author’s name
  • author’s email address
  • author’s phone number
  • category of work
  • title of work
  • is author published or unpublished in the category? A work is considered “published” if it has been traditionally published, self-published, published in a magazine or other periodical whether online or hard copy, or published online on the author’s website or blog.
  1. For devotions and poetry, up to three pieces may be submitted as one entry.
  2. For a children’s picture book entry, submit the entire book.
  3. For articles, submit one article only, and submit the entire article.
  4. For Bible studiesnovelsyoung adult booksand non-fiction books, submit the first chapter only of the book. For informational purposes, please specify the word count of the first chapter. For novels, include a synopsis as well as the first chapter. Provide a table of contents for Bible studies, YA books, and non-fiction books.
  5. Entries in the unpublished category for YA books, novels, non-fiction books, and Bible studies may be pieces which are a work in progress, i.e., not completely written.

Winners will be announced in April during the conference.

Submissions for the 2020 contest are now closed.

Blue Lake Christian Writing Retreat is pleased to offer the Living Water Awards to those who win in the following categories: Articles, Bible Studies, Children’s Picture Books, Devotionals, Fiction Books, Non-fiction Books, Poetry and Young Adult Fiction. The awards are for non-published writers in the category they’re entering.
  • Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2020.
Category Guidelines
Articles Submit a nonfiction article of no more than 1,000 words.
Bible Studies Submit an outline, plus first 1,000 words.
Children’s Picture Books Submit the entire work, without graphics.
Devotionals You may enter up to 3 devotions 300 words or less.
Nonfiction Books Submit a one paragraph description of work, plus first 1,500 words.
Novels Submit a one paragraph description, plus first 1,500 words.
Put the genre in Header.
Poetry Submit up to 3 poems, single spaced. No more than 1 page per poem.
Young Adult Fiction Submit a one paragraph description, plus first 1,500 words

Submission Requirements

Send your submissions as an email attachment to Marilyn Turk at marilynturkwriter@yahoo.com. Put BLCWR Contest Entry with the Category you’re entering in the subject line of the email.

Each UNPUBLISHED, UNCONTRACTED submission must include a cover sheet with: Your name, email address, title of your work, and category entered.

Each page after should not include your name or any tell-tale evidence of the author.

Each submission should be double-spaced, Times New Roman (black), font size 12, with 1″ margins.

Multiple submissions accepted, but not within the same category.
